10 Simple tips to boost our Mental Health

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps to determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

Following are 10 simple tips to improve and boost our mental health:

1. Start the day with a Cup of Coffee: There is nothing like a cup of coffee to warm up one’s soul and starting the day afresh! It is indeed a cup of heaven that boosts our energy by increasing our body metabolism thereby helping in detoxifying our body. Coffee consumption also helps in lowering down depression. And for people who have issues drinking coffee because of the caffeine present in it, can try some other drinks like decaffeinated coffee or green tea.

2. Spend Quality time with Family and Loved ones: Close, quality relationship with loved ones takes away our stress and boosts our mental health. Have dinner with your family. Have a deep conversation with your favorite person. Have some good times talking and playing with your siblings. Bond with the people you care for and you’ll automatically better relieved and relaxed.

3. Create something: Bake a cake, cook your favorite meal, write a poem or story, paint something, take beautiful photographs or simply start working with some easy craft stuffs. Start making something you have always though of doing. Being creative takes our mind off negative stuffs and makes us feel happy and content at the same time.

4. Have Pets? Play with them! Nothing is as good as having a furry friend who makes you smile and laugh. Being around animals lowers our stress hormone cortisol and boost oxytocin hormone which makes relaxes our mind and body and makes us feel happy. Even if you don’t have a pet, you can simply volunteer at any pet shelter or can even play with the pets of your friends and neighbours.

5. Do something relaxing: It’s not good for us to panic or stress out due to work pressure. Therefore, sometimes we really need to take a break from all our busy schedules. You can watch a movie or even dance around the house while listening to a good music. In this way, stress will decrease, lowering the cortisol hormone in our body and the chores will also get done at the right time.

6. Try Chocolates: The caffeine, coco, theobromine, flavonoids in chocolates reduces our stress level and improves our mental skills and powers by increasing our concentration at work and making us smile at the same time. Having a little bit of chocolate every day is thus good. It also regulates the pressure in our body and relaxes our mind simultaneously.

7. Exercise: A little bit of exercise everyday can boost our mental health by reducing depressing, negative thoughts and anxiety. Feeling low? Just hit the gym and work your stress out. You can try yoga too. Try sipping green tea at times along with practicing yoga or exercises to have a good impact both on your body and mind.

8. Follow a Healthy Routine: It is important to maintain the normal biological clock in our body for having a good, healthy life. Making up and following a routine will help in this cause. One should eat and sleep at the same time every day. A balanced diet along with 8 hours of sleep every day, is very important.

9. Let it Go: Is something bothering you? Are you depressed about some matter and can’t let that thoughts go? Jot it all down in paper or simply share it with someone you can trust. Writing and sharing upsetting, saddening experiences help in reducing depression and also lightens our heart and mood simultaneously.

10. Work on your Strengths: Do something you are good at. This will help in boosting your confidence. Have faith in yourself and continue doing your work. You might fail in it once or twice but will surely improve one day, cause after all failure is the pillar of success. Take a task and gradually take a tougher one. This’ll improve your mental well-being.
